2009 NELSON CO. RELAY FOR LIFE
The Relay for Life is
the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event,
bringing communities together in hope, celebration and memory.
It is a unique event that offers everyone in the community an
opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.
The overnight event remembers those who have lost the fight
against cancer and honors those who have survived. Various
teams consisting of a maximum of 15 people each raise money for
the event. Recognition is given to those teams who raise the
most money. Approximately 50 teams participate each year
in Nelson County. Newcomb Oil Co. has participated in the
event since 1996 and has been in the top 5 teams since 1999.
Newcomb Oil Co.'s participation in this year's event capped a year-long
fundraising effort and was organized by Lisa Bodine of the Bardstown
office. The team raised $10,640 and was recognized as the
top fundraising team for the Nelson County event which was held
at Bardstown High School's Garnis Martin Field on May 8th and
9th. The total amount raised by all teams exceeded
$110,220.
